The tour was excellent, full of stories, very rich in detail. Our guide was fantastic. The only "if not" is that there isn't much time to stop and take pictures.

  • Advance booking is essential, not just recommended, to secure your visit, whether it's weeks or months ahead. Booking Alhambra tickets in advance ensures entry and prevents disappointment, especially when accessing the Nasrid Palaces, the highlight of Alhambra.
  • You cannot buy Alhambra tickets last minute. It is not possible to get Alhambra tickets on the day of your visit, so make sure you book in advance to avoid disappointment.
  • There are three separate sections in Alhambra, the Alcazaba,  Nasrid Palaces, and Generalife Gardens.
  • Entry to the Nasrid Palaces is timed and dated. You must arrive on time to access the Nasrid Palaces.
  • If there are no last-minute Alhambra tickets available. You can consider buying a Granada card which includes access to Alhambra.
  • While children under 12 enter for free, selecting a ticket for them during purchase is necessary.  Children under 3 can obtain tickets at the ticket office without prior booking.
  • Ensure you carry your passport with you as it is the only form of identification accepted. National identity cards or driver's licenses are not permitted.
  • If you have pre-purchased your tickets online, consider entering through the Gate of Justice (Puerta de la Justicia) for shorter queues and easier access to key areas like the Alcazaba, Nasrid Palaces, and Partal.

Avoid Disappointment

With approximately 3 million visitors annually, Alhambra is an extremely popular destination for travelers from around the world, due to its popularity, ticket demand is high, especially for access to the Nasrid palaces, leading to a limited number of tickets sold per day, which makes getting last minute Alhambra tickets very difficult.

Flexible Planning

By booking Alhambra tickets in advance, you have the flexibility to choose your preferred date and time slot, allowing you to customize your visit to your schedule and preferences.

Ticket availability for Alhambra

Ticket Availability - High Season

As one of the most sought-after attractions in Spain with over 2.5 million visitors each year, Alhambra is extremely crowded from April to September. During this period, demand for tickets tends to exceed availability, which is why booking Alhambra tickets in advance is essential.

Due to the limited daily capacity, tickets for guided tours, Nasrid Palaces visits, and evening sessions can sell out months in advance.  During this period you should consider alternative options such as guided tours or combo tickets.

Ticket Availability - Low Season

The low season at Alhambra is from October to March. During the low season last minute Alhambra tickets are relatively easier to secure. With fewer tourists visiting you have more flexibility in choosing dates and times for your visit. The low season is the perfect time to explore the Nasrid Palaces which has limited entry slots daily and is the most popular part of Alhambra. While tickets may be easier to get during the low season, booking Alhambra tickets in advance is still advisable, especially if you have specific dates or timings in mind.

Palace of Carlos V

The Palace of Carlos V is a newer addition to the Alhambra complex. It stands in stark contrast to the Moorish architecture with its Renaissance design. The Palace of Carlos V is designed around a circular courtyard with towering pillars supporting two levels. This unique architectural style symbolizes the union of heaven and earth, a central theme for Renaissance architects.

Museum of Fine Arts

The palace's upper level is home to the Fine Arts Museum which showcases a diverse collection that spans from the 14th to the 20th centuries. You can admire sculptures and paintings by Grenadian artists in the Romanticism, Baroque, and Neoclassicism styles. You can also see beautiful works by famous artists Manuel Ángeles Ortiz. The Fine Arts Museum aims to provide a comprehensive overview of Grenadian art throughout the centuries.

Museum of the Alhambra

Situated on the ground floor of the Palace of Charles V, the Alhambra Museum is located on the south side of the palace. It has seven halls, the museum's first hall hosts thematic exhibitions, while the remaining halls are organized chronologically. Established in 1870 by the Provincial Commission of Monuments, the museum aims to protect the archaeological artifacts collected by the commission.

Patio de los Leones (Court of the Lions)

In the center of Patio de los Leones stands the Fountain of the Lions, supported by twelve majestic marble lions symbolizing strength. Surrounding the fountain is an elaborate gallery that showcases stucco work, delicate arabesques (patterns that feature flowing lines and foliage) and geometric patterns characteristic of Moorish architecture.

Patio de los Arrayanes (Court of the Myrtles)

The Patio de los Arrayanes is an extremely peaceful courtyard and it provides the perfect retreat for relaxation. It has a shimmering reflecting pool, surrounded by beautiful myrtle shrubs. This court offers a striking contrast to the pristine marble pavement outside. The Court of the Myrtles serves as an entrance to the Palacio de Comares.

Booking tips

  • As a UNESCO World Heritage site and one of the most popular attractions in Spain, booking Alhambra tickets in advance is highly recommended to secure your entry.
  • Keep your entrance ticket and ID handy throughout your visit, as you'll need to show them multiple times. Consider having both the QR code on your phone and a printed paper ticket accessible, especially in case your phone battery is low.
  • Arrive at the Nasrid Palaces entrance at least 30 minutes before your specified time slot to ensure you don't miss your entry. This allows enough time to locate the entrance and queue.
  • For visitors with limited mobility, wheelchair rentals are available at the Entrance Pavilion. Follow the disabled route signs for a comfortable visit. Please be aware that the Alcazba has uneven terrain and entry after sunset is prohibited for safety reasons.
  • Utilize the free lockers at the Alhambra to store one medium-sized bag per person. These lockers are conveniently located near the Carlos V Palace.
  • Opt for the Gate of Justice entrance. This entrance, closer to the Alcazaba and Nasrid Palaces, typically has shorter lines than the main gate.
  • Bathroom facilities between the Alcazar and Nasrid Palaces are limited, so plan accordingly, especially if traveling with children.
  • Avoid Saturdays, public holidays, and days following a Spanish Puente (long weekend) for fewer crowds. These periods tend to be the busiest and last minute Alhambra tickets are very difficult to obtain.
